You know horses – so maybe you know and have experienced how they can change lives.
Let us tell you about how we work with horses and people.
Horses are at the heart of what we do. They are equal partners and co-facilitators in our programmes.
HorseHeard is a charity helping to improve emotional health and well being with children, young people and adults in need, through the powerful connection with horses.
We work with groups and families across the UK with qualified facilitators experienced in this work.
We deliver peer support programmes which employ a mixture of classroom based work with practical activities, interacting with the horse as a mirror to our behaviour, providing instant honest feedback and opportunity to change within a supported environment.
Our work has been proven to make a difference.
Our model delivers principally at equine facilities such as riding schools and welfare centres. Our aim is that their experience in working with us is always a positive complement to their usual daily activities. We do not work with horses in round pens or in other confined spaces, to avoid putting horses under pressure. We respect horses’ needs for friends (equine companions), freedom (living out / turnout) and forage (grazing).
The magic that the powerful connection and interaction with horses brings to our diverse client groups is truly inspiring. Primary school children, teenagers, students, young disadvantaged people and military veterans, have all benefited from the HorseHeard experience.
Emotional health and wellbeing benefits identified by a group of young people attending a mental health residential unit are: greater confidence, self-esteem, determination, self-belief, courage and focus. Read the full case study here.
Please support the work of HorseHeard by making a donation, supporting our fundraising events, business sponsorship or by making a small regular subscription by becoming a Friend of HorseHeard.
